"Too nice of a day with too calm of water to catch a big one." That's what my good friend Jim told me, who has been fishing this lake for a
great number of years. This was my third trip to this lake. I was very
satisfied to bring in this 27" rainbow. It had a girth of 14" and we
estimated it be around 7lbs. Jim usually catches his big ones when it is snowing sideways with small white caps on the water. Bret Martin

On Saturday March 17, my wife and I launched our new boat for the first time
at San Pablo at around 8:30. For the first couple of hours we fished just
inside Scow canyon, with no luck. So, we decided to go to the recreation
area to get some lunch. After that we decided to go to the second cove to
the right of Scow. We sat there soaking worms for about an hour, when I
became bored, and began to throw a rainbow colored Finnegan's Minnow(using
8lb test). After about ten minutes, WHAM!! MY pole bent over. I could not
tell what it was, at first I thought it might have been a black bass but it
never broke water, so I started to believe that it was a nice size trout. By
the time I got him to the boat I could tell the it was indeed a very nice
size trout(rainbow). After I got him netted, I found out that he had broken
the minnow in half(I guess that after it broke, that while exiting its mouth
the front hook caught it in the top lip. Boy was I lucky. I then took the
fish to the recreation area and got him weighed (10lbs 1.6 oz)and got my
Whopper club hat. that is all we caught that day, but what a way to break in
a new boat. On Sunday we took her out on the Delta. But that is another
story. Thanks, Dennis Hamer

I was fishing for black bass at howe ave, and this 41" striper
unexpectedly hit my bass jig and took me for a forty min. ride having only
8lb. test on my reel. i was able land him, took some pictures and returned him
back to the river. Dept. of fish and game witnessed the whole thing. they had
a tape measure but no scale. incredible fun on light tackle. sw-sacramento
