Los Vaqueros Reservoir
Contra Costa County, California

Los Vaqueros Reservoir

    Fishing Notes:
  • Rainbow Trout have been the main fish caught since the opening of the reservoir on September 6, 2001. Bank anglers fishing off the points north of the marina or near the dam have experienced the best success. Fish nightcrawlers, Power Bait, spoons and spinners. Trollers using Triple Teasers, Needlefish and other lures have also found excellent action while using leadcore line. The action should bust loose when the water cools down later this fall.
  • Florida Strain Largemouth Bass are available throughout the lake, but few have targeted them since the opener. Try tossing plastic worms, crankbaits and jigs around rocky points and in the creek channels.
  • Channel, White and Bullhead Catfish are available in the coves for anglers fishing nightcrawlers and Power Bait. A few quality cats have already been caught by anglers targeting trout.
  • Bluegill, Readear Sunfish and Sacramento Perch are relatively abundant in the lake. Use worms and small jigs to entice the panfish. Other gamefish found in the lake include Kokanee Salmon and Striped Bass.
