Fishing Notes:
- Sacramento Perch are the main gamefish found in Lagoon Valley. Fishing is best in April and May, when the fish are spawning and are aggressive, though these fish can be caught year round, according to Patrick Crain, U.C. Davis fishery biologist. These native fish do not build nests like other sunfish, but the males guard the eggs after the female lays them. Small spinners, jigs, meal worms and red worms are the top baits. The rocky structure near the dam is most productive, though the fish can be found throughout the reservoir.
- Some Largemouth Bass, Redear Sunfish and Catfish are also found in the lake, but they probably do not reproduce well because of the lake's high alkalinity.
