(Clear Lake) Fishing guide Larry Hemphill, and winner of the Fish Sniffer web site contest, Todd Crockett, set out on March 29 to endure the wild waters of Clear Lake.
With the storm from previous days coming to an end, and water temperatures lower because of it, the outlook for the fishing adventure wasn't very encouraging, according to Hemphill.
"We were at the backside of a two day, cold, and windy storm. With conditions like that, you're just not gonna do well. Everyone knows it's feast or famine," said Hemphill.
"I think the previous storm pushed the fish out," said Crockett.
As it turned out, with the water temperatures lower than normal, and wind conditions rougher than desired, the men managed to catch five bass. Crockett caught the largest fish, weighing in at 4 pounds 6 ounces, using jigs and worms.
Though the men did manage to catch fish, with the weight totaling in 17 pounds, they weren't quite satisfied with their fishing, or the conditions of the lake.
"Todd's a very good fisherman, but if we didn't do that well, then no one will, as far as I'm concerned," explained Hemphill.
