Room price includes Continental breakfast (for those with a more hearty appetite, a breakfast bar is available) and lunches are included on fishing days. While dinners are not available at the hotel, there are several good restaurants within a 2-3 minute walk and are reasonably priced.
Fishing Fleet
The fishing fleet is owned and operated by Gill Mendiaz who is also the United States representative for the Hotel Los Barriles. The boat captains speak fluent English, the deck hands speak some English. The fleet is comprised of ten 28 Cummins turbo diesel powered super cruisers and two super pangas. All boats are equipped with VHF radios for additional safety and communication.
Cost of the super cruisers is $330 USD including taxes and you are provided with a captain, deck hand and ice chest. Cost of the super pangas is $240 USD per day including taxes and you are provided with a captain and ice chest. Included in the price, because the hotel is not situated directly on the beach, free ground transportation is provided to and from the boarding dock.
Overall opinion of Hotel Los Barriles:
This resort is a hidden treasure and although not situated directly on the beach, offers first class amenities at a very low price. I have found that most anglers after fishing the Sea of Cortez all day could care less whether or not they have an ocean view. Incidentally, most resorts charge extra for an ocean view anyway, right?
Although dinners are not served on the premises, there are several good restaurants nearby which offer a variety of dinners and are reasonably priced ($5 to $10 USD) within a very short walking distance.
The boats are very well maintained and competitively priced. This exceptional fishing fleet is due to the vast experience of the boat captains, some even specializing in a particular species of fish and all are eager to please.
Cabo Fishing Tours liked this hotel so much, we scheduled a group tour to this hotel June 11-15.
It is the policy of Cabo Fishing Tours not to book group trips during the months of December and January; therefore there is no fishing report included with this review of the East Cape. True to the season, fishing at the East Cape has been an on-again, off-again situation mostly off due to high winds (which is great if you're into wind surfing).
