Jay and I launched out of Whiskey Slough Marina this morning and started fishing about 10:00AM. We had a really tough day today and really put in a lot of effort to get any fish at all today; we thought it was going to be a skunk for sure! The sun was beating down on us and we were making cast after cast really WORKING to get a bite! The fish just had lockjaw today and did not want to have anything to do with our efforts! Threw the whole tackle box at them today...punching mats/weeds/grass, pitching Senkos, brush hogs, finesse worms, jigs, spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits, ripbaits...did I miss anything Jay?? Grin

After a couple hours and only a couple tugs at the tail ends of our baits, Jay got the first fish. Pitched a jig to a submerged log and BAM! Jay hustled that fish to the boat trying to manhandle it and lost it right at the edge of the boat! Looked like a good 2 1/2-3 pounder, nice looking fish!

I was pitching a Senko with a 1/4 oz weight and working it slow and I got a tap tap...tap tap...SET THE HOOK! I felt a little bit of weight and this is what I got out of it:

Well...at least the skunk is off! We tried working the same area a little bit more to see if there were anymore of his buddies there, but no love.

Working the other side of the canal Jay started throwing his new 6" injected Lunker Punker on his new swimbait rod. He was just messing around and tossing it about and while bringing the lure back to the boat WHAM! It got pummeled by a huge fish! Jay got kinda scared and instinctively just set the hook, but somehow it came off Sad

We kept working and working for another couple hours for nothing else and wound up back at our original starting point. Jay was punching the weeds and tules while I was pitching a jig and craw. We work around a small island and next thing I know I hear Jay shouting and cussing and I take a look and he has a fish on! Pulled that fish out from a distance and in some REALLY THICK $%^$! Jay brought it up to the boat and I reached down and brought the fish aboard!

MAN! Why can't I get fish like that?!?! Oh well! At least we found out that the punch skirt isn't a curse!

Worked around a bit more and then brought it back in...man...what a long day...lots of sweat and physical effort went in today for the 2 fish IN the boat, but boy did I have a blast fishing with a buddy Cheesy

I saw some dude with burns all over their face. The kind where half of your face is burned just underneath the shadeline of the hat. He wasn't wearin' his sunscreen!

ZING! Hahaha you got me there Glenn! But I will say it takes some skill getting a 3/0 EWG in that small mouth!

It does take some skill! There's been many a day I wish I could hook a fish like that.

The guy that works at the marina was telling us about a boat that was stuck on the ramp two weeks ago, they opened early for a 75 boat tourney and he got a call at about 6:45 to take the tractor to the ramp cause a guy got his truck and trailer stuck...

He told me when he drove up to the ramp all he could see was the guys head lite under water, there tractor was not strong enough to pull it out. Shocked

He also said the truck was totaled but the boat was fine and the guy went on the fish the tourney and left the truck under water for the wrecker to pull it out. Talk about getten off to a bad start wonder how he did after a morning like that. I would have just gone home.

Jay - I saw a guy back his truck into the Bay at Richmond Marina. He was launching with a manual transmission and couldn't get the truck in gear. I guess he pannicked and couldn't think to hit the brakes. Huh
