Finally back on Lake Sonoma!! 8/25... Pics Added

Well after couple months of trying to get my boat working, it is back in the water! Managed to make it out for a short trip yesterday after work.  Boat runs about 10 mph faster now so the trip to the our spot was a breeze!  We tied/anchored up and quickly noticed that all around us was shad, baby bass, and baby bluegill minnows. Good sign  Cheesy. Later in the night we also got visited by wild boars, foxes, and raccoons who didn't notice us right off shore.

We were netting tons of fish by the boat for fun, took a pic of this guy with my phone cause couldn't tell what he was, bluegill/redear hybrid?
...

Half an hour into it, one pole starts bending, set the hook and the fish cuts the water sideways for about 10 feet then gets off. Shortly after the sun goes down one of the bells is ringing and poles bouncing around in the holder, friend reels it in for a few seconds, POP, hook comes out. Couple beers after that while talking about our disappointment in the Giants recently, friends pole goes off again so he grabs it and starts fighting, shinning the spotlight out away from the boat were seeing some big boils so we know it's a good one. We net it at the boat and it's a solid cat right under 19 lbs. Of course my friend was happy, his first catfish of 2009 was a 19 lber.  He was hooked deep, but not bleeding, so cut the line and watched him swim away, cat's are tough I'm sure he'll survive. Let our lines soak for maybe 15 more mins then called it a night since I had to work early. Can't wait to get out this weekend to put some good time in!!!!

Here she is!

Haha thanks everyone, believe it or not but I still don't got my first cat of 2009! Most my time on the water has been with bass tourneys! Somehow I've managed to get 3 people on the first 10+ lb cats of the year from my boat though! I guess I'm zeroed in on the anchor spots but not on where i should cast yet?

Well, got a tourney this sunday but I'm gonna try for all night catfishin this friday, see if I can get a report up. If I go I promise some pics of 10+  Grin

Good job on the pretty kitty bud.

Even better job on releasing it to spawn another day.

I love the golden color.  Beautiful channel cat.

You ever experiment with big circle hooks Riverboi?  Most of the channels will hook themselves in the corner.

Thanks for sharing

Yeah I use big circles depending on the type of bait I'm using, some stuff like liver flies right off those though. I like to cast a variety of baits, I think cat's change what bait they are looking for or something in the water influences them to focus on one type of bait. I've had nights where one bait is getting all the fish and other baits being ignored, and then next time it will be a different bait getting all the fish, or all baits catching.  I can't figure out why some baits work better than others at certain times so I always have a variety goin  Roll Eyes

Nice catch indeed!
What were you using for bait, and how many hogs did you see.
We hunted the lake last year for them.  One could follow where they had been by the vast areas of rooting.  Looked like someone disked the whole side of the hill. They are quite destructive little buggers, and oh, so , fun to bowhunt. Wink

Got the guy on liver. Started with one hog, another one came down and they ended up giving us a good show by fighting with eachother for a minute or 2. In the same spot before we've had a group of like 20 come within 30 feet of us. Shined the spotlight after we'd seen enough of them and they took off.  One was easily 200+ lbs. One of my friends has his tags already, I think I'm gonna take him fishin one night and get a hog too.
