Caples lake, 2 personal bests this year!Videos prove it!!!

Camping August 10th, Monday.  Long post, sorry but worth it!

Our fish total in 09 is now 145.
This was our 30th day fishing this year.

Day-1...17-fish!

Where do I start?
Well first have to give it up to Mackattack! Nothing was hitting on the jigs but, His spot was right on!!!!!!
Our first ever time to this lake.

We got up at 3:30 and left at 5:30. We got to Caples at 8:30.
We got the very first campground, #35.
Set up camp and launched the boat at 9:40.

Weather was hot then clouds and even some sprinkles.
We started out jigging for about an hour with no bites so we started drifting and jigging.

We went to just drifting power eggs on the bottom at the far end of the lake near the split rock.
All fish caught this trip were trout....anyways,...

1-10:20-Mike-10 Inch trout on sunrise power eggs. Bleeder.
2-11:02-Kristy-12" on white p,eggs and a pink power worm, Bleeder.
3-11:53-Mike- 9" on sunrise p.eggs,let go.
4-12:05-Mike -12" on sunrise, let go.
5-12:08-Mike- 9" on rainbow p.eggs, Kicked the bucket.
6-1:44-Kristy- 9" on sunrise p.eggs, Bleeder.


We went to shore fish while Mike took a nap.

We took our fish back to camp and cooked them for dinner! YUMMO!
6pm, Back on the lake to drift fish and at:

10-6:16-WOW! A PIG! A huge strike and he caught a 25" 8 and a half+ pig on white power eggs!!!! His personal best this year. Way to go Mike!!! Kept.

We beached the boat over night, But only after the rocks claimed a two inch chunk off of our boat prop. Such is life! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ



Camping Caples lake August 11th Tuesday,
Day two....30-FISH!

Our fish total in 09 is now 175.
This is our 31st fishing day this year.

We got on the lake at 8am, We were toplinning a gold castmaster and a cripplure.
After an hour and a half we went back to drifting and jigging.
The same area as yesterday. The wind had picked up.

At 12:00 we went to the marina store and they took a pic of Kristy with her fish in front of the Caples lake sign.

Back again,

We went back to camp, ate pulled pork sandwiches and homemade pasta salad and got back on the lake at 5pm.

It had gotten windy as HELLLLLLLL!

It was getting late and Mike wanted to go back to camp.
I stayed to shore fish alone.

It was almost pitch black out and I somehow made it up the rocks and across the hwy to the campsight with no flashlight! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

this was our 32nd day fishing this year.

Beautiful morning! On the lake at 8:00am.

We only had about two hours to fish before heading back so.....
we went right to the sweet spot.

Mike had a huge pig on but lost it at the boat! BUMMER!!!!!

Some of the fish released were floaters but, were quickly picked up by birds.
Off the lake at 10:00 am.
Non stop action for us this trip.
We did see an older guy with a 8 and a half  lb trout as we left. He was so excited!!!
WE packed up and left at 11:22 and got home to Concord just before 3pm.

Scary boat eating rocks on this lake!!!DON'T go without a depth finder!
Brought home 9 fish! We were tired and filthy but very very happy!!!!!!

We will definitely go back again!
Can't wait until next year!

Kristy that is a wild report!    Congrats on the two PB's of the year!

Kinda funny but I bet they are cannibalizing! Those other trout could fit in their mouth no prob!

Great job you guys. See we told you before you went that it would be worth the trip.
You are dead on about the boat eating rocks, at Caples they can really sneak up on you.
Nice PBs on some real nice looking fish.
Now that you have been up there I know that you will be hooked into a return trip every year.

Did you guys get a chance to take a look at any of the other lakes up there? If not save some time on your next trip for Red, Woods and the East Carson.

Nice fat Fishies

Either Kristy is an accountant or more anal retentive  than I am. I catch alot of crap for even remembering who caught how many, or which was biggest!  Yet alone what time and how big each fish was!! Do you have a spread sheet you bring along?


I'm glad you got to fill in so many slots , and even a few REALLY NICE Bows. Do those get entered in a different color?

I'm sure if I kept track , my sheets would be covered in BEER and be as Fuzzy as my memory.

Im surely no accountant.
I just keep a little note pad and when someone catches a fish I first write the time, then who's it is then the size and then what bait was used.
When the fish come one after another it can get a little crazy though.

WOW WOW WOW!!! I was impressed before the pigs started showing up.  Great job!  How cool that you both got new PB's on the same trip.  You two will be talking about this for a while!
