Smokey Melones 7/27 Natey vs. the Osprey

Left Elk Grove at 4:00am with Natey and my wife Cindy. Arrived just short of 5:15 into Angles Camp. From there descended just before the 49 bridge into what smelled like a huge barbecue. I though maybe Natey left a chicken nugget barbecue package in the back of the car. But, just as we make the turn to make the cross the bridge, we see the lake socked in with smoke. Hit Tuttletown at 5:35a with the smoke just as abundant as seemingly possible. Nevertheless, we go to launch. Just as we have a successful launch, Cindy pulls the truck and trailer up the ramp. I am smiling when some of Danny Layne's clients are giving the thumbs up for having my wife pull the truck and make the long walk down the ramp. Then I notice she doesn't have her fishing license around her neck as gets to boat. Angry

Arghhh! Guess I'll make one make the walk. Finally, I get back to the boat and it's about 6:15 and we are off to the spillway. It's starts off kinda slow for us. Cindy makes me bring in the first fish. She hopes without knowing how I went 0 for 3 to start off last times' Melones fishing/landing trip. But I get the first one in. The we get another and Cindy brings this one in. Next, Natey get his chance. He's bringing in a nice 13 1/2" koke, when, one the local patrolling Osprey notices the splashing and thrashing of the fish. I see the bird circling the fish. I tell Natey "speed it up the bird is gonna get your kokanee." Natey wasn't going to lose it as he reels as fast as his 4 1/2 years arms can reel. In the net the kokanee goes, and Natey is beyond pumped. We grab the fish and Natey poses for a picture. We end up leaving at 11:30 with 11 kokes to 15 inches.

Nate...Nice job! We didn't see ya out there as we got to the ramp earlier & I let Tortuga do the walking while I got the boat ready & warmed up the motor. Maybe we should take turns as I could really use the exercise too. Great photos of Natey with his fish, loved the sunrise in the background of his photo!!
It was an eerie day on the water with the grayness. Reminded me of one day we had out there in the fog. Until next time,
