Lake Almanor Hex Hatch 7/20 Report W/PICS

My wife and I decided to try to get out of the heat for the afternoon and headed up to Lake Almanor. After basking in the 92 degree air and catching some rays, we started fishing. The Hex started coming out at around 6:45pm, and fishing started to improve when the sun wasn't on the water anymore. My wife ended up hooking 6 and landing 3 rainbows. I on the other hand, lost 3 due to tackle issues (at least that's what I'm blaming it on!) and didn't catch any. Oh well, at least she did well.

The surface water temp was 74 degrees where we were fishing. The fish has lots of copepods on them as well.

It looks like topless fishing, but it isn't...

Here's another shot to prove it...

Another one of her fish...(sorry for the camera problems)...

It was getting dark and the camera (or photographer) was getting worse...

All fish were released. Black caddis hatching and mayflies also. Bring mosquito repellant!

Good Pix & report PP, any idea how long that hatch goes on for? I always assumed it started mid June and only lasted for 3-4 weeks... or that's what I was told. I usually go up the week before the 4th of July to try to avoid all the craziness up there... I did fine fishing during the morning and day hours, but I didn't go out and fish the hatch at dusk... I should have! I'm glad you got to "cool off" in the 92 degree weather! Keep those pix & reports coming in! Mark

I hav fished there many times and only caught a few fish but its worth it.we went to lassen view past yrs no longer there Cry

hav to find the fish/fishererprsons. drift meal worms crickets bb shots and let out a lot of line. If you know browns cove fish with mini getz it and make it jump a lot or the drifting works. also check almanor fishing assosiation for reports they also hav pens at hamilton branch to raise fish,hav property up there and hope to mov there in the future.
